Chicago Nights plans a night out in Chicago. Pick a vibe, a budget, and a night of the week, and it builds a real route between real bars, lounges, and late-night spots, with directions for each stop.
Where does the venue data come from?
Two places. A hand-researched list of Chicago venues, written up firsthand, ships inside the app. On top of that, the app keeps its list current on your device by reading a public map directory (OpenStreetMap, via the Overpass API), which lets it add venues that have opened and retire venues recorded as closed. Venues added that way are described from what their public listing records, rather than from a firsthand visit. OpenStreetMap data is used under the Open Database License, and the required attribution appears on the app's first screen.
Does this app require an internet connection?
No. The venue list and the itinerary planner work fully offline, using the venues bundled with the app plus anything previously saved on your device.
The app does use the internet when it is available. On launch it may make one read-only request to the public Overpass API to refresh the venue list, at most about once a week per install, not on every launch. If that request fails, or you are offline, the app falls back to the list it already has and keeps working. Tapping "Directions in Maps" also opens Apple Maps, which is a separate app.
Does the app use my location?
No. Chicago Nights does not request or use your location. Directions open in Apple Maps, which handles your location itself, separately from this app.

Chicago Nights does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. The app has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and does not request your location.
What data is stored: Your preferences (such as your chosen vibe, budget, or neighborhood) and a cache of venue data are kept locally on your device. This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us, to Apple, or to any third party.
What the app sends: When it refreshes the venue list, the app sends a single fixed query for public venue information in Chicago to the Overpass API at overpass-api.de. That query is the same for every user and contains no personal information, no device identifier, and nothing about you or your choices in the app. As with any request to any internet server, the operator of that server necessarily receives the network address the request came from, and their handling of it is governed by their own policies. We receive none of it, and we run no server of our own.
What data we collect: None. We operate no server, no account system, and no analytics. Nothing you do in this app is reported to us.
Third parties: The only third parties involved are the OpenStreetMap Foundation, whose public Overpass API supplies venue information as described above, and Apple Maps when you tap for directions. We share no data with anyone, because we collect none.
Data retention and deletion: We hold nothing, so there is nothing to request the deletion of. Everything the app stores stays on your device: your preferences, the cached venue list, and the most recent night you planned, which expires on its own after about eighteen hours. Deleting the app removes all of it from your device permanently. Because there is no account and no server, there is no consent to withdraw and no data for us to return or erase on your behalf. If you have a question about any of this, write to the address below.
Children's privacy: Because no personal data is collected from any user, this app does not collect personal information from children.
